Breaking the Thermometer: A Conversation with Leyla McCalla
Facilitated by: Michelle Lanier
“Breaking the Thermometer: A Conversation with Leyla McCalla” is a talk/demonstration featuring festival performer Leyla McCalla as she tells the story of Radio Haiti that informed her commissioned theatrical piece at Duke University (2020), and inspired the deeper musical exploration of her Haitian roots imbued into her most recent album release. Audience members will have a unique opportunity to glimpse into McCalla’s artistry, her own family history, and into her cultural connections to Haiti and New Orleans.
This session by Leyla McCalla is funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the North Carolina Arts Council.
